FRENCH LICK, Ind.- Sept. 9, 2018- Ten of the nation’s top chainsaw carvers will return to downtown French Lick Sept. 14-16 for the ninth annual Block Bash.

“There’s nothing we love more than bringing a talented group of carvers to our home in French Lick,” said Jason Emmons, a co-owner of Bear Hollow Wood Carvers, the sponsor of the event. “Cleaning up all of the wood shavings afterward takes a while, but it’s worth it to see all of the amazing pieces carved throughout the weekend.”

The festival includes a chainsaw carving competition, auction, a marketplace with different kinds of art, live entertainment, a classic car show, and wine and beer gardens, according to the Bear Hollow Wood Carver’s website. It is one of French Lick’s biggest events, Kristal Painter Executive Director of Visit French Lick West Baden said.

“It’s a fantastic event,” Painter said. “It’s not something you’re going to see anywhere else in Indiana that I’m aware of.”

The Emmons, Jason and Cindy, moved their store from Saint Croix, Ind. to French Lick in 2010. They started Block Bash as a spin-off of the Fall Fest they held in Saint Croix as a way to involve their new community and neighboring businesses, according to a blog post from Visit French Lick West Baden.

The Bear Hollow carvers, including Jason, are “an insanely talented group of carvers,” and they travel around the United States performing and competing in high-intensity competitions, according to the Bear Hollow website.

“We are fortunate to get to participate in some amazing events across the United States every year, but can’t think of a better location to hold the Block Bash,” Cindy said.
