The next two stops on French Lick West Baden’s Culinary Trails are Hagen’s Clubhouse and Ballard’s in the Atrium. From light fare in an extraordinary atmosphere to unforgettable dishes and a spectacular view, these two restaurants have the ambiance to turn any meal into an impressive dining experience.
Hagen’s Clubhouse, named for legendary golfer Walter Hagen, who won the 1924 PGA Championship at the course, is located on the beautiful Donald Ross Golf Course. It’s said that Al Capone even carved a message into the bar, be sure to check it out. The expansive menu features soups, salads, burgers, seafood and steaks. It’s placed in three categories on the food trail; Tenderloin Lovers- features a grilled or breaded pork tenderloin served with all the fixings. The Soup, Salad & Sandwich Trail-features Chili and Corn Chowder, BBQ Gouda Burger, Pulled Pork and Mandarin Orange Spinach Salad. Last but not least the BBQ Trail- features signature BBQ Ribs, tender, fall off the bone, baby back ribs are slow cooked and basted in house-made BBQ sauce. These delicious dishes are only a few of many delectable dishes available at Hagen’s Clubhouse (including my personal favorite, the Hole-in-One Hot Brown). The unforgettable food and atmosphere will have you coming back time and again!
Step inside the famous dome of the West Baden Springs Hotel to enjoy Ballard’s in the Atrium. Enjoy the Signature Bloody Mary, seasonal drink favorites as well as light fare. Experience natural lighting through the atrium’s skylights during the day and the evening ambiance of gradually changing mood lighting. Ballard’s in the Atrium is placed in three categories on the Foodways Trail: Spirited Brews- features an array of signature cocktails such as Hot Cobbler, Butter Beer and Martinis. Soup, Salad & Sandwich Trail- features French Onion Soup with caramelized onions slow simmered in veal stock and sherry, topped with gruyere cheese crostini. As well as Soup du Jour, a selection of soups of the day. Or the Black & Bleu Steak Salad with sliced Cajun spiced New York strip steak, iceberg Romaine blend, gorgonzola cheese crumbles, roasted tomatoes, crispy tobacco onions and house-made bleu cheese dressing. Burgers & Dogs Trail- featuring the Signature Ballard’s Burger with an 8 oz. Wagyu beef patty, frizzled leeks, gorgonzola cheese and chive aioli on a house-made brioche bun. As well as the Classic Wagyu Beef Burger with an 8 oz. wagyu beef patty, fully dressed along with house pickles and your choice of cheese on a house-made brioche bun. Other delicious dishes include artisan pizzas, portabella gyro, trout amandine, roasted chicken and the delectable West Baden Signature Chocolate dome- chocolate mousse layered with chocolate cake and a ganache shell!
