Celebrating 10 Years of Wood Carving Fun

Bear Hollow Wood Carvers celebrated their 10th Block Bash last weekend and it did not disappoint! The event takes place annually on the third weekend of September and offers a wide selection of entertainment. Local vendors set up booths on the Town Green and streets to sell their handmade goods and foods. Live music, beer & wine gardens, and more, kept the Bash going into the evening.

The wood carving begins on Friday and does not end until Sunday. My fiancé had never been so we made sure to stop by on Friday afternoon to see the beginning of the festivities and eat dinner. We picked 33 Brick Street, which is featured on the Indiana Foodways Alliance culinary trail Tenderloin Lovers, and we were so pleased with the prompt, friendly service and delicious food! We started with chicken nachos as an appetizer (nachos are always our go-to) and I ordered my favorite entrée – a Caesar salad. The Caesar salads are always so fresh and taste amazing at 33, so that is why I almost always order it. Tommy wanted to try something new, so he decided to order the Philly cheesesteak sandwich with French fries. He said he was pleasantly surprised, as not every restaurant can cook a good Philly. After eating, we walked back over to the wood carving tent and admired the craftsmanship of the carvings. Even though it was the first day, the carvers were hard at work creating amazing, unique pieces.

When we returned again on Sunday to see the finished carvings and auction, we were in awe. There were so many great pieces! One piece in particular stood out to us because it was just starting to be carved on Friday. When we returned Sunday afternoon, it was finished and looked just like the Cowardly Lion from The Wizard of Oz! It was sold at the auction for a whopping $1,700! There were also carvings of bears, a life-size wolf, eagles, owls, pumpkins, feathers, and many more. But, to me, the best of all was the one and only fox. And Tommy surprised me by bidding on it and winning! Now we have a beautiful, unique piece for our new home.

The Block Bash is such a fun and unique event in French Lick West Baden. It offers entertainment for adults and children alike! I love this event because it is truly one of a kind in our area. For those visiting French Lick West Baden in the fall, this is a must!
