Frugal Day Getaway in French Lick

Posted on 02/13/2020 by Visit French Lick West Baden

When I think vacation I also think, “how much is that going to cost?” Being the mother to four kiddos, I tend to look to less expensive options. I’ve put together some great activities that your family can enjoy on a dime right here in #MyFrenchLick! Just because you’re being frugal during your day out doesn’t mean you can’t have a great time! There are some amazing free and inexpensive options here in French Lick!

The Outdoors

I find it quite enjoyable to take a leisurely walk through the forest. The backdrop of the canopy of trees overhead, paired with the occasional glimpse of wildlife (mostly deer and other small critters) makes for a very relaxing and for the kids exciting time! I’ve listed my family’s three favorite outdoor places below.

Pioneer Mother’s Forest

The Trails at French Lick Springs Hotel

Patoka Lake hiking trails

Enjoy the History

The area is known for its deep roots in history. The first French Lick hotel was built in 1845. The French Lick Resort is made up of two historic hotels, French Lick Springs Hotel, 1901 and West Baden Springs Hotel 1902. Enjoy a self-guided tour through these two historic hotels and historical tour through town to see some of the other sites along the historical walking tour.

The Right Time

Depending on when you visit you can also enjoy one of our many festivals or Farmer’s Market. Annually Orange County is host to multiple different styles of Festivals. Some named for fruit and others for the array of folk music available in our area. Farmer’s Market is quite enjoyable with live entertainment some Saturdays and demonstrations on other Saturdays.

Enjoy the Little Things

Part of what makes French Lick enjoyable is the plethora of different activities available to heighten every family member’s fun meter. Having a family of my own, I know that what one kiddo may like, the other’s may despise it, we’ve got you with activities that’ll put those differences aside.

Using the time to figure out what I may want to purchase one of my children as gifts for birthdays or Christmas.
